Windows 8.1 video app crashes when I click "Play Trailer"

Every time I try to preview a movie in the MS video app it crashes with the following error log entry. The app works fine for my local videos.

Hi,

You can try to update the video card driver to see what's going on.

Then, Let's run SFC /scannow command to see if there is any error in your system.

SFC

I have the latest Radeon graphics drivers, I've even tried beta drivers and it is looking like it is AMD's drivers which are at fault.

Windows updates still have not resolved the issue, which has been going on since last December. the 13.2 Catalyst drivers work, but none of the new drivers work with modern apps =(

When I switch over to the Intel 4600 graphics onboard, all apps work flawless. I have the latest Mobo driver, chipset drivers, windows up to date as of 15 minutes ago. Can some one send this to highest tier support and get on AMD's case about proper debugging of windows 8.1.1 drivers. =) Ty Rob Cruz

I was able to resolve this by creating 3D application profiles for C:\Windows\System32\wwahost.exe and C:\Windows\System32\mfpmp.exe in AMD's Catalyst drivers. Haven't identified the exact setting that was breaking the Video app yet, but its one (or all) of the following:

  1. Filter (was Edge-Detect, set to Standard for these apps).
  2. Morphological Filtering (was On, set to Off for these apps).
  3. Tessellation Mode (was AMD Optimised, set to Use Application Settings for these apps).
